Groom's Home Furnishing Dilemma

Is one of my groom's responsibilities finding the furniture for the future apartment?

I've always lived in a dorm or shared a place with roommates, but have never had to fully furnish a home. As my good friend asked after our engagement, "All I want to know is...who gets the top bunk?"  He was referring to my loft bed—and yes, I sleep on the top bunk. I'm now in the market for a queen bed, because while my loft bed was built by my father, a twin bunk bed just isn't going to cut it.

The problem is, I don't have the apartment yet.  We're looking to rent a restored 1920's bungalow home and we want to furnish it to match the style.  The project is turning into a lot of searching and little buying.  I plan to be in the apartment by May, but until then I have many furniture needs, but little direction.

I'm tempted to go to yard sales and vintage furniture shops to start stocking up for the new place, but until we’ve settled on the place I'm holding off on making any purchases.  I'm spending more time learning about what we’ll need when we finally move into our new home, but it’s hard to know exactly what we’ll need. Yes, the apartment may not be fully prepared on move-in day, but I won’t risk ending up with furniture we decide we don't want.

  1. I think instead of going out to buy brand new things just to piss her off just talk to her, maybe instead of building a brand new house she can get a second job and you can buy an already made new one, I don't know, just talk to her.
